To YouTube, or not to YouTube…

June 30th, 2009 leeandrew No comments

youtube_logos_smI have a lot of reasons why I never liked YouTube and why I avoided it to this day. The main reasons might be obvious. 10 min. limit on the video file length, no larger than 2 GB file size…

The length might be OK for my small video clips, but not for my tutorials. Like my Lightwave tutorial which is 29 min. long, had to be “cut up” into 3 parts at non reasonable time codes and also ruins the experience. Now the total file size is only just over 400 MB despite being in 720p high resolution quality, but future videos will be longer and in high def. too. So the 2 GB can “easily” be achieved and therefore present a problem.

So my first choice has always been my QuickTime versions on my server and for quick online viewing Vimeo which barely has any limits like YouTube and has a way better user interface too. Vimeo is still my first choice. That said however, the most video views online with the most subscribers is without a doubt, still YouTube. So today I have decided to upload all CGI scenes I made for the latest Star Trek Intrepid fan film to YouTube. And while the videos were uploading, I already had a visitor impressed with my work. I barely had time to finish the description on the first video file before I had more reviews, comments and ratings.

So here goes nothing, my YouTube link:

Not your typical 101…

May 31st, 2009 leeandrew No comments

Lightwave-example-1Having finally finished my first Lightwave tutorial, its not really your typical 101 tutorial guide. This is rather considered to be a show for a novice and new comer to Lightwave, to show how to get started with the general basics even if you’ve never used Lightwave before. And to show anyone interested how 3D animation is done.

Enjoy!

Lee PodcastingFinally finishing the first part of my Lightwave tutorial series. Just to keep you up to date, my current status is the following:

Screen Recording done

Voice Overs done

Adding effects and doing final edits to the first part of the series. “Part One – Colours & Textures”. Either I will release this as a standalone video file or make this into a three-part series and release it as one file, but with the ability to select chapters…. Stay tuned.

Showcasing my latest CGI

May 9th, 2009 leeandrew No comments

showcase_cgiWith permission from Nick Cook, the genius and founder behind Star Trek Intrepid, I proudly would like to showcase my latest CGI I made for the latest Star Trek Intrepid episode:

(Transitions and Lamentations)

Click here to view the new CGI

Having been involved with the CGI for past episodes, this one actually showcases my abilities without the restrictions of having to follow animatics, as I basically had free rain on the CGI scenes, having the episode script in mind.

I also did the sound effects track in this episode, and various other tasks. I had a blast working on this episode and hope you go and check it out!

Enjoy!

If you have the flash plugin installed for your browser, you should see an audio player above. Click it to hear from me (Lee Andrew) what’s going to happen in the near future with this site.

This was also a test to see if the audio player would work. :-)

Tutorials

This section will contain video tutorials, which I think warrants its own section on the website.

There is a possibility of some PDF tutorials, but that depends on the subject.

Replacing some files

May 4th, 2009 leeandrew No comments

OK I am uploading the content as you know, but some of the QuickTime files have been optimized for the website. The loading should be much faster and the size has been adjusted for better viewing.

Still not really liking this current theme, but it has definitely reduced the website loading time. Stay tuned for more videos as I will make a ton more available very soon. Also I have made a lot of tutorials for Lightwave and other special effects which I have been working on for a long while, so its time I release them soon too.

Updating themes….

May 3rd, 2009 leeandrew No comments

leeIf you have visited this site in the past you will notice the change of theme. I am still not finished with it and I am still uploading more content. The main reason for a theme change was the old one with all its updates made the loading times very long. It had too many new features that just made loading a simple page a pain, regardless of the internet connection speed as the scripts are being executed on the server. I hope I might find a better theme in the near future, but for now the functionality is there and the website loads faster.

Been away for a good reason. :-)

April 29th, 2009 leeandrew No comments

talpreviewpicYeah yeah, I can hear it already: “What the hell, still no updates yet?”. Well, I have been very busy working for Star Trek Intrepid, a scottish fan film production that I joined 4 or 5 years ago. However I was busy the last few weeks on making the CGI for the episode which I finally completed a month ago and then took 4 weeks to make the sound effects track.

After working with the music composer, Bodo Hartwig, a famous German Vulcan living in Cologne, we collaborated on the final audio mix and the episode is as good as done. The final public release  will be on 1st May 2009.

Now I hope I have some time to update my website… :-)
